Most cellular service providers are now running a 3G network, providing their clients with a reliable access to the internet on their smart phones. However, a select—and growing—few are switching over to the 4G mobile internet network for its clear superior benefits. Its broadband internet quality and speed of connection gives its users the same internet speed they would be receiving at home on their smart phones or their laptops wherever they may go in their coverage areas.

The 4G mobile internet technology is now covering several major cities throughout the United States, in cities such as Atlanta, Portland, Chicago, and Philadelphia. From the city of brotherly love to the nation’s “greenest” city, this new mobile internet technology is providing these residents with the freedom to roam their historical cities, while remaining connected to the worldwide web. Because it is still a relatively new form of internet connection, its coverage is still limited. Major cities such as San Francisco and New York have yet to seen the benefits of 4G mobile internet; however, soon, it will be expanding to cover such cities—and other regions, including more suburban and even rural areas. Rural areas that are to receive such coverage may be receiving the most perks. Because in many remote regions, the infrastructure for broadband internet, such as cable and DSL, are difficult and expensive to put into place, the 4G mobile internet network gives those living in these rural areas another alternative to relying on the slow speed of dial-up internet. With 4G mobile internet, you can download larger files at a much faster rate; you can stream videos much more smoothly; and you can even play online games! You can do all this without being confined to a desk at home, in your room; rather, you can do so while roaming the city.

People slowly grew accustomed to cellular phones where you can continue to access your family and friends while on the go. No longer were you tied nor constrained to your landline to be able to communicate with one another. A similar phenomenon might be occurring with mobile internet, where no longer will avid computer users be tied down to their homes or offices to access the worldwide web. Already, wireless internet has changed the way people are using the internet. You can move around your home or office no longer constrained by the Ethernet cords that previously tied you down to your desk. With 4G mobile internet, you simply insert a mobile air card into your laptop computer and you are not tied down to even your home or office. The entire city becomes your own network and your own internet hotspot. Imagine. No longer do you have to find a hotspot, go back home, or find a café with WiFi. Internet access would be ubiquitous throughout the entire city.

So while this technology is currently limited geographically, the potential for 4G networks is being realized and will undoubtedly spread throughout the nation to all major cities and perhaps even rural and suburban areas.
